It is with deep sorrow and immense love that the family and friends of Wilson Brett mourn his passing on November 8, 2025 at the Lionel Kelland Hospice in Grand Falls-Windsor. He was 81.

Donald "Wilson" Lewis Brett was born in Campbellton on April 29, 1944 to Atwood and Clementine "Minnie" Brett. He spent his youth learning the carpentry trade at the feet of his father, and went on to have a long career as a master builder. He married the love of his life, Brenda Loder, in 1967, and they spent 52 years together until her passing in 2020. His life was never the same once he lost his Brenda Boo.

An avid moose hunter, Wilson found no greater joy than being on the bog at the crack of dawn. Even when cancer slowed him down and complicated his life, he would get on the quad and head off to try his luck. Whether it was hunting, setting snares, trouting or cutting wood, he loved being up in the country.

Wilson was a quiet, and often solitary man, who enjoyed the simple things in life. When diagnosed with cancer in 2021, he was stoic, and faced his challenges head on. Even in his darkest times, he would never admit defeat. In his last year at Pleasantview Manor in Lewisporte, he gained the admiration, love and respect of staff and residents who watched him navigate his illness with grace, a sense of humor, and without complaint. Wilson quietly gave his life to the Lord in April alone in his hospital room, and took great comfort from then on knowing he would be reunited with his true love.

Predeceasing Wilson was his beautiful wife, Brenda; parents, Atwood and Clementine Brett; brothers, Lloyd, Harvey and Scott and their wives; in-laws, Mary and George Loder; sister-in-law, Kathy Loder; and brothers-in-law, Hubert Hollett and Jack Brenson.

Left to mourn this great man are his devoted children, Kimberley (Mark Penney), Christopher (Mary) and Kent (Kay); his precious grandchildren, Leah, Claire, Owen, Olivia, Chelsea and Samantha; his big sister, Mildred Brenson; sisters-in-law, Marilyn (Dave Howell), Roxanne Hollett and Debbie Loder; brothers-in-law, Dave Loder (Ella), Craig Loder (Roxanne), and Paul Loder (Sherry); Pop's fur babies, Harry, Perci, Finn and Louie; close friends, Major Kay Barnes and husband, Morris; a wide circle of nieces and nephews; and many special friends at the Brittany Inns and Pleasantview Manor, especially Jennifer, Nicole, Nora, Amanda, Alicia, Denise, Kelly, Jennifer and Sammy.

Wilson is resting at Gordon Woolfrey Funeral Home in Lewisporte, with visitation from 2-5 p.m. on Monday, November 10, 2025. Due to the closure of the Salvation Army Church in Campbellton, the service will remain in the community, but be held at the Pentecostal Church on Tuesday, November 11, 2025 at 2 p.m. Interment will be at the Salvation Army Cemetery in Campbellton.

This moment cannot go without a special mention to the many medical professionals who cared for Wilson on his cancer journey: Dr. Terri Stuckless and Dr. Dawn Armstrong at the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre; Dr. Heidi Brake at the Miller Centre; Dr. Morcus Paulus at the James Paton Memorial Hospital; Palliative Care Nurse Heather Eveleigh; Dr. John Campbell, palliative care medical advisor at the Lionel Kelland Hospice; and the many staff and volunteers at the Lionel Kelland Hospice, with special thanks to Marcia, Shelley, Brenda and Kevin for going the extra mile. There are no words for the dignity that you bring to the dying, and the care you provide to the families. There's a special corner of heaven reserved for you all, and the family is eternally grateful.

Not, what did he gain, but what did he give?

These are the units to measure the worth

Of a man as a man, regardless of his birth.

Nor what was his church, or what was his creed?

But had he befriended those really in need?

Was he ever ready, with words of good cheer,

To bring back a smile, to banish a tear?

Not what did the sketch in the newspaper say,

But how many were sorry when he passed away?
