Obituary

Passed peacefully away Saturday, October 17, 2015 at the Central NL Regional Health Care Center, Grand Falls-Windsor, Mr. Varrick Wells, aged 83 years, of Grand Falls-Windsor.

Varrick was born in Wild Cove, White Bay, the third of seven children. As in most small outports they grew vegetables, caught game, raised livestock, cut the firewood and brought in the water for every necessity. Needless to say they were pretty self-sufficient family, no stores, no roads, no phones, and no T.V.

Varrick worked as a heavy equipment mechanic in Labrador, the Baie Verte Peninsula and Eastern Newfoundland. He Married Marie Russell and together raised four wonderful children. Eventually he bought himself a long liner and turned to fishing, going as far north as Nain, Labrador and several areas around coastal Newfoundland.

He maintained a vigorous and busy lifestyle up until Christmas of 2014 when health issues began to hinder his ability to work. However he maintained his hour long telephone calls to nephews and friends as per usual. He was a good family man and dearly loved his grandchildren.

Varrick is predeceased by his son Denis; Brothers, Raymond, Woodrow, Wilfred, Ramsey & Ross; Parents Jabez & Jesse Wells.

Leaving to mourn with precious memories are his wife Marie; Sons David & Dean; Daughter Joni (Kadar Omar); Grandchildren Amy Williams, Adam Maria Hersi; Sister Joyce Regular, eight Sisters-in-law and four Brothers-in-law, along with many Nephews, Nieces and a large circle of extended family and friends.

The public visitation took place from Gordon Woolfrey Funeral Home, 262 Main Street, Lewisporte on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM.
