It is with heavy hearts, the family of Stephen Elmo Mills, announce his passing surrounded by family at the North Haven Manor on Thursday, 11 December 2025 at the age of 96.
Stephen Elmo Mills was born on 06 June 1929 to Lillian and Bennett Mills. At the age of 12, Dad started working at Solomon Eveleigh's sawmill until he was 21. At that time, he went to work with Bowaters until he retired at age 64. He loved the physical labour and for him a job worth doing was a job worth doing well. He was one of the last surviving workers of the group he worked with.
In 1959 he married the love of his life, Joy Williams. Together they raised seven children and provided a wonderful life for the family.
Predeceased by wife, Joy; parents; Lillian and Bennett Mills, brothers; Harold, Macpherson, Edward and Oliver, sisters; Madge and Shirley; sister-in-law, Eileen Mills; brothers-in-law, Arthur Brenton, Sidney Lewis.
Left to mourn his passing with loving memories are his children; Marion (Bill), Glenn (Flora), Doreen (Jack), Guy (Janice), Gary (Bonnie), Craig and Clara (Jamie); grandchildren; Miranda (Gary), Melanie (Charles), Wendy (Andrew), Courtney (William), Jonathan, Melissa (Jeff), Nicholas (Julia), Andrew (Catherine), Jordan (Suzette), Holly (Josh), Ashley (Nick) and Zachary, great grandchildren; Aiden, Liam, Capri, Mary, Vita, Isaiah, Ravenna, Madelyn, Franklin, Van & Luca, sister; Nellie, brothers; Albert (Primrose) and Thomas; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Mills, Ruby Mills, Darling Mills, and a large circle of family and friends.
Public visitation will take place at The Salvation Army Church, Comfort Cove-Newstead, NL on Saturday, 13th December from 7:00 – 9:00 pm.
The celebration of Life Service will take place at The Salvation Army Church, Comfort Cove-Newstead, NL on Sunday 14th December at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at The Salvation Army Cemetery, Comfort Cove-Newstead, NL
As expressions of sympathy, donations to The Salvation Army Cemetery Fund, Comfort Cove-Newstead, NL will be appreciated. Those who prefer to send flowers, will also be appreciated.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Gordon Woolfrey Home, 262 Main Street, Lewisporte, NL.
