It is with great sadness but with grateful hearts for a long and happy life that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved father, Stanley Grant Humphries, age 97, of Laurenceton, at the James Peyton Memorial Hospital, Gander, on Thursday, March 21st, 2024.  He was born on October 19th, 1926 on Indian Point to the late Thomas and Ellen (Gill) Humphries and was the last surviving member of his family.

The family moved to Laurenceton in 1929 and it was there that Dad lived until illness required him to move to Pleasantview Manor in Lewisporte, in 2022. We will be forever grateful to our brother Scott for his care of Dad that allowed him to stay in his own home until he was in his 96th year.

In 1953 he married our mom, Janet May Baker and together they raised 8 children. Dad retired in 1991 from Abitibi-Price NL. There was never many idle days in Dad's life. He was always busy. Cutting and hauling firewood, growing a vegetable garden, making hay, raising sheep, and in his later years he enjoyed Sunday drives with Scott and working in his flower garden. The only thing that Dad enjoyed more than catching a bigger fish or growing a bigger potato than Jeff was to be surrounded by his family. He was always counting the days until their next visit or phone call. He had an incredible wit and dry sense of humor and a beautiful singing voice.

Left to cherish his memory are his eight children, Peggy (Don) Day, Daphne (Wayne) Canning, Bernard (Sharon) Humphries, Dianne (Patrick) Lannon, Scott Humphries, Beverly (Dino) Plastina, Jeffery (Michelle) Humphries and Shirley Butland; his precious grandchildren, Stephen (Shelly) Day, Sara Canning, Jodi-Lynn (Matthew) Peddle, Sasha (Jeffery) Keith, Jonathan (Agata) Humphries, Bernadette Humphries, Danyelle Judson, Amanda Plastina, Vincent Plastina, Nolan Humphries, Abigail Humphries,  Shannon Butland and Katie Butland; cherished great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Peddle, Brody Peddle, Isabella Day, Katherine Day, Benjamin Humphries, Noah Humphries, Jesslyn Keith and Jaxen Keith; one treasured great-great-grandson, Theodore Peddle.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife, Janet; infant daughters, Debra and Janice; sisters, Edna Purchase, Daisy Tetford, Janet Ledrew, Rita Ledrew and Kate Jefferies; brothers, Alan, Edward, Eric and Frederick Humphries.

We would like to thank the staff of Pleasantview Manor and also the staff of the James Peyton Memorial Hospital for their care and compassion during Dad's stay there. Thank you to Gordon Woolfrey Funeral Home.

Visitation will take place on Saturday, March 23, 2024 from 7pm-9pm and Sunday, March 24, 2024 from 2pm- 4pm and 7pm- 9pm at Bethel Pentecostal Church, Laurenceton, NL.

Funeral service will take place from the church on Monday, March 25, 2024 at 2pm. Interment to follow at the Pentecostal Cemetery, Laurenceton.

As expressions of sympathy in lieu of flowers donations to the Bethel Pentecostal Cemetery Fund, Laurenceton will be gratefully accepted.
