Passed away at the Central NL Regional Health Care Center, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL, Mr. Ronald Roy Hanlon, aged 78 years.

Ron was born and raised Norris Arm. In 1966 He married Grace Walbourne a teacher from Fogo Island. Together they raised their three children Jody, Danny and Paula in Norris Arm South. His three granddaughters Morgan, McCailey, and Keegan were his pride and joy. He was a wonderful poppy accompanying them on their many soccer and hockey tournaments, watching cheerleading competitions and concerts.

Ron started his working career at the age of 14 with his father Myles who was a logging contractor with Bowaters in NorWest Gander and Johnathan's Pond. When his father retired from the logging industry Ron went on to be a heavy equipment operator until his retirement. He worked on mega projects like Churchill Falls, Upper Salmon Development, Hibernian, Vosiey Bay as well as Alberta Oil Fields. You can take the man out of the woods but not the woods out of the man. Logging and his sawmill was still his passion. He spent much of his life cutting timber, firewood or operating his sawmill (Hanlon's Lumber) alongside his sons Jody and Danny. Danny continues to operate the sawmill today as a hobby and a legacy to his father. Ron was widely know for his story telling. He loved being surrounded by his family and friends as he had a captivated audience. Ron loved to share the stories of his and his buddies exploits throughout the years. Most of the stories would make you laugh until you cried or wonder how did he even live to be 78 years old. One would think many of them were fabricated but oh no they were all so very true. Ron's legendary stories will live on in his sons Jody and Danny and his son in law Mike as they've heard his stories many times through the years and loved retelling them to their friends.

Ron had a larger-than-life personality, and his passing has left a huge void in our lives.

Left to mourn his passing with fond and loving memories are his wife of 58 years, Grace; children, Jody (Lynda), Danny (Minerva), Paula (Mike Mallay); granddaughters, Morgan Hanlon, McCailey and Keegan Mallay; siblings, Rex (Maxine), Leona Rowsell, Shirley Brace, Verna (Craig Hayter);  sisters-in-law, June and Marguerite; his poker buddies, Don, Dave, Ed, Chris, Cyril and a large circle of other relatives and friends.

He is predeceased by his parents, Myles and Edna Hanlon; brothers, Roy, Gerry, Herb and Gary; nephew, Roy Hanlon; brothers-in-law, Wilson Rowsell and Reginald Brace.

Public Visitation will take place from Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, Norris Arm on Tuesday, January 23rd and Wednesday, January 24th from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. The Funeral Service will take place from the church on Thursday, January 25th at 12:00 PM.  Interment will take place at a later date.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish Cemetery, Norris Arm will be gratefully accepted.

He will be sadly missed and forever loved and remembered by his family.
