Randolph George
Canning
Apr 14, 1938 — Sep 18, 2025
It is with great sadness that the Canning family announce the passing of their oldest brother Randolph George Canning. Randolph passed away peacefully in his sleep at Notre Dame Bay Memorial Health Care in Twillingate, NL on Thursday September 18, 2025.
Randolph led the grandest of lives. He was a true gentleman, an avid outdoor man and an incredibly hard worker. His work in the woods found him to be an excellent bulldozer operator, highly sought after by Abitibi, Burt Brothers and other contractors around the island. His strong work ethic and can do attitude proved second to none in the work force.
He was a bright light, a kind soul and the truest of gentlemen. He loved to camp, he spent many summers after retirement exploring this beautiful island and loved to educate people on the things he had seen and learned. His love for cooking was always present but became more refined and magnificent after retirement. He was a force to be reckoned with in the kitchen!
Randolph will be dearly missed by his beloved Emma Pope. Emma breathed new life into Randolph as they walked through retirement hand in hand. His son Daren Canning (Jayne) will cherish his memories and the life experience he gained from his Dad.
Affectionately remembered by his brothers, Lindsay (Evelyn), Claude (Katherine), Rick (Winnie); sister Marina and sisters in law Ruby and Giralda; nieces' and nephews, Tammy Canning, Irving Gidge (Roxanne), Brian Boudreau (Stephanie) Chantelle Arsenault (Rene), Tammy Adams (Scott), Stacey Corriveau (Jeff), Jo-Ann Pope (Lawrence), Roxanne Blake (Sheldon), Jody Blake (Pamela), Marina Blake (Kevin), Tonya Freake (Cordell), Lori Abbott (Rod), Risa Bartlett (Grant) Tracey Canning, Leetha Quinlan (Eddie) and Pamela Canning will cherish the memories they have. His extended family Aubrey (Jean) and family, Jessie (Andy) and family, Doris (Wayne) and family, Evelyn (Brian) and family, Tom (Roseanne) and family, Marilyn (Martin) and family, Colin (Joyce) and
family, Sheena (Darren) and family, will remember him fondly. Special mention of Joshua Pope (son of Colin) whom Randolph always called "Pop's boy". A relationship developed through affection, loyalty and much pride.
Predeceased by his treasured wife Elsie Canning; his parents, Stanley and Gladys Canning; his brothers, Roger, Winston and Eli Canning; his sister Pheobe Blake and her husband Norman Blake; Charlene Canning, Zeta Canning and Liam Pope.
