Paul Jefferies
Lush
Jul 14, 1951 — Sep 5, 2026
Lewisporte
It is with heavy heart that the family of Paul Jefferies Lush announce his passing on Saturday, September 5, 2026 at James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, NL, age 75 years.
Paul was born on July 14, 1951 in Exploits, NL in the family home by a midwife. Although not raised in Exploits, Paul spent many childhood summers there and his love for Exploits did not diminish. Upon retirement in 2006, Paul and his wife Velma spent much of their retirement at their cabin in Exploits enjoying boating, fishing and the camaraderie of many friends and family.
After graduating high school Paul moved to Ontario, Yukon and the NWT for work. Paul met his wife Velma while visiting NL in 1973 and she joined him in the Yukon and NW but they returned to Lewisporte to be married in December of 1976. They then moved to Fort McMurray, AB where he worked for Syncrude for 29 plus years where he became a Journeyman Electrician.
Fort McMurray is where they raised their son Colin and daughter Lesley. Paul enjoyed the outdoors: trout fishing in Carp Lake, BC both with his family and sometimes a "boy's trip" There were lots of camping trips throughout western Canada and the western states, as well as road trips across Canada. The winter weather did not deter Paul and family from spending time outdoors snowmobiling, boil ups, rabbit catching and also spending a day cutting wood for the basement cozy wood stove where they hosted many a social.
In 2006, Paul and Velma moved back to their hometown in NL continuing their love for the outdoors and travelling. Sightseeing became more worldwide with Paul enjoying cruising the most. They often visited their children in AB and after their grandchildren were born, they purchased a condo in AB to spend more time there. As Paul's health declined his biggest enjoyment was being with his family, especially his grandchildren as he spent more time being their "poppy"
