Passed away at the North Haven Manor, Lewisporte on Friday, August 5, 2022, Mrs. Olive Effie Reid, age 88 years.

She was predeceased by her parents, Frederick and Mary Carter; husband, Donald; brothers, John, Samuel and George; sisters, Mary Jane, Caroline, Rosana, Elsie and Annie May and brother-law, Bruce. Left to mourn her passing with fond and loving memories are her children, Joanne (Peter Ginn), Jim (Alice), David, Linda (Woodrow Hillier);  grandchildren, Michael, Melissa (Jeff), Whitney (Blaine), Rebecca (Aaron), Andrew (Ashley), Katie, Angie (Nathan), Rebecca (Jordan) and Dillon;  great-grandchildren, Peyton, Casey, Luke, Kaiden, Keyona, Kane, Emily, Nicholas, Brooklyn, Addilee;  brother, Charles (Rowena);  sister-in-law, Marina Reid and a large circle of other relatives and friends.

Olive was born in Great Behat on Feb. 7, 1934 to Frederick and Mary Carter.  At the age of 4 she was predeceased by her father and then raised by her aunt and uncle, Annie and William Clarke in St. Anthony.  Both of these were deceased before she completed her education.

In 1955 she graduated from the General Hospital School of Nursing and went back to St. Anthony to begin her career as a registered nurse.  It was there that she met the love of her life, Donald Reid.  They were married in 1956 and went on to have 4 children.  As Don was the manager of the Bank of Nova Scotia, they made several moves before finally settling in Lewisporte in 1964.

In December 1965 Olive became the School/Public Health Nurse for the Lewisporte District, which then included communities as far away as Stoneville, Horwood and Port Albert. She held many well baby clinics and visited all the schools in the district, where she performed countless "head checks" and Immunizations. Very quickly she became known and loved as "NURSE REID". Olive constantly went above and beyond.  Many times, clients, including babies, came to her home to see her as they were unable to make it to her office or clinic during the day.  Her house was always well stocked with creams, ointments, lotions, and shampoos for her to dispense for the various ailments.  There were many, many people whose lives she touched over the years.

Olive had a kind and gentle touch, was soft spoken, and was always caring about somebody else, even right up to her passing. She always had to make sure you were well fed and was always the last one to sit down to eat.  She was the happiest when her family was around her, especially her grandchildren, and she adored their pets.  Olive also enjoyed attending church services when she was able and supported the various church groups.

Olive was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.  May she rest in peace.

Public visitation will take place from Gordon Woolfrey Funeral Home, 262 Main Street, Lewisporte on Tuesday, August 9th from 2-4 & 7-9 PM.  The Funeral Service will take place from St. Paul's Anglican Church, Lewisporte on Wednesday, August 10 ^th at 11 AM.

As expressions of sympathy, flowers or donations to St. Paul's Anglican Church, Lewisporte will be gratefully accepted.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Management, staff and residents at White's Family Care Residence for their exceptional care, love and support for the past 14 months. Thank you also to Administration and staff of the Palliative Care Unit at the Lewisporte Health Care Center, staff at the ER Department and Surgical Unit and The JPMHCC, and to Gordon Woolfrey Funeral Home. The family also wishes to extend special thanks to Rev. Owen Holwell for his many visits and ongoing support.
