Michelle Maude
Freake
May 16, 1965 — Jun 17, 2024
Surrounded in love, Michelle passed away on Monday June 17, 2024 at the palliative care unit of the Lewisporte Health Centre, after a very strong and courageous battle with cancer.
Born at Botwood on May 16, 1965 to Alonzo and Jessie (Hewitt) Brett, Michelle was raised in Lewisporte, the youngest of three. After graduating from Lewisporte Regional High, Michelle attended post-secondary at the College of Trades and Technology in St. John's. After completion of her course of study in 1985, she returned home to work at Lewisporte Wholesalers and continued there until its closure. Michelle then worked for a time at the Lewisporte Family Medical Clinic before venturing into business with her husband Fred, the love of her life, who she married on June 13, 1998.
In their devotion to each other, Michelle and Fred loved time spent together, whether at work pursuits or just in relaxed everyday living. They were happiest when sharing good times with friends and family and their house and cabins were always full of people and were places where everyone was always welcome. Michelle especially loved time spent at their summer cabin on Exploits Island and many late nights there with music and friends. Music was a very large part of life for Michelle and Fred and, together, it helped them bring lots of joy to others.
Michelle was predeceased by her parents Alonzo and Jessie Brett, parents-in-law Baxter and Meta Jessie Freake, brothers-in-law Gerald Freake, Reginald Freake, Robert Pullen, Glen Newland, Pearce Nicholas and sister-in-law Rhona Freake.
Left to mourn are loving husband Fred, sister Arlene (Paul) Miles, brother Gary (Elizabeth), nieces Ashley, Danielle, and Brittany and nephew Shawn and their children Miles, Jacob, Elise, Oliver, Sage, Aleaha and Abigail, stepson Jason (Jacqueline), step-daughter Shelley (Pat) and grandchildren Olivia, Nathan, Benjamin, Matthew, Logan and Evan. She also leaves behind her in-laws of the Freake family Prudence, Austin (Nancy), Ron (Joy), Brada, Valerie (Gordon), Beulah, Junior (Melissa), Debbie, Wally (Linda) and Rodney (Daniel), and sister-in-law Lorna. As a tribute to her life, Michelle also leaves behind a very large circle of extended family and friends who will miss her greatly.
Donations in Michelle's memory may be made to the Special Care Unit of Lakeside Homes, Gander, in honour of the angelic care they offer daily.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation is to take place. A Memorial Service will take place from St. Matthews United Church, Lewisporte, NL on Thursday, June 20th at 1 PM.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Gordon Woolfrey Funeral Home, 262 Main Street, Lewisporte, NL.
