Melvin, Eugene Witcher was born on March 3, 1947 to George and Matilda Witcher of Birchy Bay, NL.  He had one sister, Maud and two brothers who died when just babies.

Melvin was born in Birchy Bay, NL but also lived a short while in Campbellton, NL and South Brook, NL. Melvin was a lover of the outdoors, spending much time fishing, hunting, berry picking and gardening.  He took great pride in his gardens and was always happy to share his harvest with others.  He had many stories of his hunting and fishing adventures.

In July of 2016, Melvin was diagnosed with the dreaded disease of cancer.  Even though this was devastating news he handled it well, remained very strong in mind and did not complain about his dire situation. During the last three years he has endured much suffering but his spirits remained high and he still held a positive attitude.

On November 2, 2019, Melvin could no longer care for himself in his own home and was admitted to the Carmelite House in Grand Falls-Windsor, NL where he passed away on November 7, 2019 aged 72 years.

He was predeceased by his parents, George and Matilda Witcher and two baby brothers.

He leaves to mourn one sister, Maud Hewlett and her husband Wilson.  Melvin will also be sadly missed by a large circle of family and friends.

The funeral service took place from the Apostolic Faith Church, Birchy Bay, NL on Sunday, November 10, 2019 at 1 PM. The interment followed at the Apostolic Faith Cemetery, Birchy Bay, NL.
