It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Marion Gay Layte, at the Palliative Care, North Haven Manor, Lewisporte on April 22, 2026, age 90 years.

She was predeceased by her husband Stan; parents, Frederick and Claudia; step-father, Harold Moyles Sr.; siblings, Austin Snow, Rita Snow, Frank Snow, Harold Moyles Jr. and Calvin Moyles.

Marion was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, whose nurturing spirit and love of family touched everyone who knew and loved her. Marion has always been the definition of home. She was love, she was comfort, she was joy - she exuded strength, stability, and poise. Marion was the center of her family, and she was the place to which everyone returned to find home again.Being at the center of her family was always an important part of Marion's life. She, with her husband Stanley, raised their five children in Lewisporte, in a family filled with joy and love. As their family grew to include spouses to their children, new grandchildren, great grandchildren, and even great-great grandchildren, their family also spread across provinces. Despite the distance, everyone always knew they were welcome home to Mom's, or home to Nan's. She loved having her house filled to the brim with family - every room and every space filled with laughter and life. Nobody would ever go hungry at Marion's. She always had a fridge and freezer full of cookies and meals, ready to share. Marion's great pleasure in life was sharing her love and her passions with everyone around her. As long as she could, Marion continued to cook, bake, quilt, sew, and knit. She shared these talents and gifts with everyone in her family, not only in the things she created, but in the passion she had for those things, which has inspired her family to carry on these skills in their own ways. You could always rely on Marion to hand you a stack of handknitted dishcloths, or to have a special quilt made to celebrate a new baby, or to enjoy one of her sweet treats when you visited. All of these will be cherished treasures her family will have to remember her by and to pass on her story. Marion also spent her life providing love, comfort, and offering generosity to those around her. As well as being a loving Mother and Nan, she was a devoted community member. She spent much time involved in her church community, taking great joy in the friendships and connections she built within the congregation and the ACW. Marion enjoyed participating in and contributing to church events, as well as playing bingo. Her many acts of kindness and generosity over the years have helped those in her community, whether it was a church fundraiser, lending a helping hand, or cooking a meal to share. She valued hard work, and doing things right - Marion could always be trusted as a strong and steady force. We will always remember the joy and peace Marion felt as she enjoyed the world around her. She spent many a joyful hour watching the plentiful birds who visited her backyard, and visiting with her special puppy neighbours. Just like everyone in her life could rely on her to feed, nurture, and comfort them, so could the animals rely on their special Marion.

Left to mourn her passing with fond and loving memories are her children, Linda (Andrew), Geraldine (Mike), Donna (Lorne), Sandra (Chris), Derek (Audra); grandchildren, Jennifer, Alison, John, Terri Lynn, Michael, Andy, Ashley, Chad, Alyssa, Brian, Kevin, Shane; great-grandchildren, Tiffany, Tristan, Anna, Shauntelle, Nolan, Mila, Cohen, Asher, Lincoln, Everleigh, Zavery, Joseph; great-great grandchildren, Mylo and Emelia; sisters, Ruby and Daisy; brothers, Wilson, Bernard, Maurice, and a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Public visitations will take place from Gordon Woolfrey Funeral Home, 262 Main Street, Lewisporte on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. The Funeral Service will take place from St. Paul's Anglican Church, Lewisporte on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 at 2:30PM. The interment will follow at St. Paul's Anglican Church Cemetery.

As expressions of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, donations to St. Paul's Anglican Church will be gratefully accepted.
