Passed peacefully away on Thursday, April 30th, 2026 at James Paton Memorial Regional Hospital in Gander, NL. Major Roy Cole was 84 years old.

Born on October 2nd, 1941 to the late William and Myrtle Cole of Stanhope.  The oldest of 7 children, he grew up with a love for family, friends, and learning.  As a young boy, Roy and his friends would bike from Stanhope to Lewisporte to ensure he went to school each and every day.  After finishing grade school he went to summer school to complete his teaching certificate. Teaching in communities such as Glovers Harbour and ringing the school bell as principal in Woodstock and Twillingate, Roy eventually left Twillingate in 1962 to go to training college to become a Salvation Army officer.

During his officer training, he met his one and only true love, Triffie Janes from Embree. They married July 27, 1966 and spent almost 40 years in the ministry together. Their ministry spans 12 different communities from Woodstock, NL to Scarborough, Ont. to St. John's. NL. 11 appointments were spent pastoring in the church, and their final posting overseeing the Wisemen Centre and Harbour Light in St. John's, NL.

As a wonderful and dedicated husband and father, Roy and Triffie raised three children, Steve, Bill, and Pam.  In 2002 they retired in Lewisporte, NL, where they enjoyed a life filled with lots of late night games with friends, travels to visit family, special trouting trips, berry picking for jam making, and phone calls connecting family and friends far and wide.

Predeceased by parents, Bill and Myrtle Cole; baby sibling Frederick; In laws Stephen and Emma Janes; Brother and Sister in laws, Terry Janes, Judy Janes, Hardy Bursey, Roland Colbourne, Carl Bowes, and Albert Foss. Leaving to mourn, his wife of almost 60 years, Triffie Cole; children Stephen (Marie), Bill (Tanya), and Pam (Bev); Grandchildren - Nicholas, Marika, Chloe, Will, Jack, Kai, Nevaeh, and Phoenix; Great grandchildren - Rachel, Wyatt, Claire, and Luke; siblings, Joyce, Daphne, Bernice, Bruce, Tony, Mary, Frances and many friends.

Roy and Triffie lived a happy and fulfilled life as they committed their promise to God's calling and were rewarded with many blessings through their joyous life together.

Public visitation will take place from Gordon Woolfrey Funeral Home, 262 Main Street, Lewisporte on Friday, May 1, 2026 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM.

The funeral service will take place from The Salvation Army Church, Lewisporte on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at 1PM. The interment will follow at The Salvation Army Cemetery, Lewisporte.

As expressions of sympathy and in lieu of flowers, donations to The Salvation Army Sound System will be gratefully accepted.
