It is with heavy hearts that the family of Louise Daphne Small, announce her peaceful passing on June 23, 2025, at 88 years of age at North Haven Manor in Lewisporte.

Louise was born in Summerford, NL on March 30, 1937, to parents Edmund and Martha Boyd. She was the oldest of 5 siblings: David (Joy)Boyd, Nancy (Calvin Wheeler), Josephine (Sandy Ross) and Loreen Locke. On April 16, 1957 Louise married Oliver Small of Lewisporte. Together they had 4 children, Bruce (Shirley) Small, Joanne, Michele Small (Alan Strand) and Patricia (John Briscoe); Louise is also remembered by her 6 grandchildren Mark, Andy (Nadia), Tesa (Stephen), Noah (Haley), Jay (Michelle), and Jessica (Greg); 4 great-grandchildren, Austin, Aryana, Asher and Keira; and special friend Betty Hynes, as well as many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

She is predeceased by her parents, Edmund and Martha Boyd; husband, Oliver; infant grandson, Walter Baxter Ted; sons-in-law, Jeff Manuel and Gerald Freake; brother-in-law, Albert Locke

Louise was a dedicated member of many community groups. She was a regular church goer and life member of the United Church Women, helping to fold bulletins or to serve afternoon teas. She was also a life member of the Lions Club where she attended weekly meetings and called bingo regularly. Louise volunteered for many years at blood clinics and with the Red Cross as well as donating generously to many local and international charities. We always joked that she had enough personalized notepads and address labels to last two lifetimes!

Louise was fiercely independent and lived life on her own terms. She enjoyed spending time at her cabin in Bread and Cheese Cove, where she would play solitaire or sit and watch the campfire for hours. She travelled the world on bus tours through Canada, the United States, Australia and New Zealand and cruised through Europe and the Caribbean, right up to her 86th birthday which she spent on a Caribbean cruise. She loved games and puzzles and would play cards for as long as someone wanted to play with her, no matter the game, she knew them all. Louise was incredibly active well into her eighties playing ladies league bowling and taking daily walks around Woolfrey's Pond boardwalk.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of North Haven Manor, especially those at the Protective Care Residence who provided exceptional care to her over the last year.

Public visitation will take place from Gordon Woolfrey Funeral Home, 262 Main Street, Lewisporte, NL, on Tuesday, June 24th, 2025 from 2-4PM and 7-9PM. The funeral service will be held at the St. Matthew's United Church, Lewisporte, NL, on Wednesday, June 25th, 2025 at 3PM. Interment will follow at the St. Matthew's United Church Cemetery.

As expressions of sympathy flowers or donations to the Canadian Red Cross will be gratefully accepted.
