Lewis Absalom Burton

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Lewis A. Burton, age 73, of Lewisporte, NL, formerly of Springdale, NL announce his sudden passing on Saturday December 31, 2022

Lewis is predeceased by his Paternal Parents Hayward & Pricilla Burton, Step-Parents Sidney & Lillian Smith. The love of his life, his wife Marion. Brothers Harold, Harvey, Roy, Garwin & Bronson. Sisters Joyce, Marie, Deanna & Joan.

Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his step-children Cathy, Elsie, David & Donnie.  Brothers Wilson & Lorne. Sisters Elsie, Verley, Bonetta, Alice, Marilyn & their respective families. 8 Grandchildren, 19 Great-Grandchildren as well as a large circle of Nieces, Nephews, Family & Friends.

Lewis was the middle child of a blended family of 17 children. He was an avid traveler in his younger years. When he was old enough to leave home to seek work, he got a job on the "Topsail Star" and traveled the world carrying cargo/supplies to different countries all over the continent. Oh the stories he told of his travels, we would sit for hours listening to him. By the time his traveling days on the ship had come to an end, he had met and married the love of his life Marion on Dec 27, 1979.

They built a life in Springdale for many years. While Marion was at home raising the children, Lewis worked away in the woods for a few years before moving to Ontario. But Ontario just wasn't home, so they moved back.

After Marion passed a few years ago, Lewis came to live in Embree with his sister Marilyn and family until he retired to Kingsway Retirement Center in Lewisporte.

The family would like to thank the staff at Kingsway for Lewis' care over the last couple of years. Thank you to Dr. Ambarack and Nurses on staff as well as Freake's Ambulance for their care. Thank you to Gordon Woolfrey Funeral Home for the support and guidance during this difficult time.

As per request, Cremation has taken place.

The Memorial Service will take place from Green Bay Funeral Home, Springdale, NL on Sunday June 11,2023 at 2:00PM. Committal will then follow from the United Cemetery, Springdale, NL.

As expressions of sympathy, donations in Lewis' memory can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Gordon Woolfrey Funeral Home, 262 Main Street, Lewisporte, NL.
