Obituary

With sadness the family of Joan Pinksen shares the news of her peaceful passing on Tuesday, August 30th at the age of 77. An incredible woman of faith, Joan dedicated her life to her family and to helping others. She was a devoted, caring and compassionate teacher serving 38 years in both Newfoundland and Alberta.

Everywhere she went she shared the love of God with family, friends, students, coworkers and strangers who crossed her path. She sought to make a difference in the lives of her students and coworkers and cultivated strong relationships, always putting in the effort with such care and thoughtfulness to stay connected.

Joan was born in Campbellton, Newfoundland on September 12, 1944. She married the love of her life Garry Pinksen and they shared  54 beautiful years together. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband; Garry, their two children; Lesley and Craig and their spouses, grandchildren; Eryn, Lucas, and Mason, her sisters; Meta, Jean, and Gail and other relatives and friends.

Joan loved to sing and play the piano and she was always volunteering at her local church. She shared her love of music with her family and found beauty in every moment. Joan started working as a school teacher at the age of 16 where she began her life-long passion as an educator. Also as a life-long learner, she studied Early Childhood Development at Memorial University of Newfoundland. Joan loved to travel with friends and family taking in nature and beautiful scenery anywhere and everywhere. After living in Alberta for 13 years, her and Garry moved back home to enjoy their retirement.
