James was born on March 22, 1909 to George and Susanna Ellsworth of Englee, NL. He had 7 brothers and 3 sisters. He married Alfreda Johnson of Englee, NL. They had 3 children, Winnie, Olive and Francis. Some years after Alfreda deceased, he married Mary Canning also of Englee, nl. He and Mary had 7 children, Vivian, Marie, Shenstone, Anita, Oral, Sharon and Vera.
James pastored in a number of churches with the Pentecostal Assemblies of Newfoundland. He also did evangelistic work and short term ministry when and where needed. Being a very outgoing person, he had many friends around the island.
On Monday, January 9, 2017, at the age of 107 years, God called him home from the Health Sciences Center in St. John's, NL
Left to mourn his passing with fond and loving memories are Winnie, Olive, Vivian (Raymond Callahan), Marie (Ross Hewlett), Shenstone (Jacqueline), Oral (Hilda), Vera; sister, Victoria Compton; sister-in-law, Clara Ellsworth and a large number of grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; as well as other relatives and friends.
He is predeceased by his parents; 7 brothers; 2 sisters, Alfreda and Mary; children, Francis, Anita and Sharon.
Public visitation took place from Gordon Woolfrey Funeral Home, 262 Main Street, Lewisporte on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 from 7-9 PM & Thursday, January 12, 2017 from 2-4 PM & 7-9 PM.
The funeral service took place from the Pentecostal Church, Little Burnt Bay, NL on Friday, January 13, 2017 at 2 PM. The interment will follow from the Pentecostal Church Cemetery, Little Burnt Bay, NL.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Gideon's Bible Society was gratefully accepted.
