Obituary

The family of Jack Baker sadly announce his passing at North Haven Manor in Lewisporte, NL on August 26, 2025.

Jack leaves to mourn his wife of 73 years, Verna; his children, Viola (Melvin) Beaton, Ivan (Colleen), Byron (Kim), Ada (Dennis) Sheppard, Lorne (Tina), Lynette (Bill) Cole; his grandchildren, Shane (Joanne), Sheldon (Deborah), Justin (Deanna), Jordon, Danielle (Byron), Chad (Kelsey), Matthew (Allison), Micah (Renee), Julia (Andrew), Jenna (Jared) and Jacob; his great-grandchildren, Sophie, Hilary, Rachel, Eli, Simon, Ellie, Maya, Samuel, Levi, Lydia, Lauren, Lily and Noah; brothers, Larry and William Baker.

Jack was born and lived in Brown's Arm all his life, until he moved to Kingsway Living and later to North Haven Manor in Lewisporte.  Jack was a faithful member of Maranatha Pentecostal Church for many years, he served the congregation as board member, involved in Sunday School in his early years and later as usher for many years.  He loved the community of Brown's Arm, even while in the manor he consistently inquired about the people and the happenings in the community, especially the church.

Jack spent his working career in the woods as a logger and a skidder operator with Abitibi-Price.  In his retirement years, he loved to care for his property in both summer and winter, took much pride in keeping his grass neatly mowed and his snow cleared away.  Jack had an avid interest in the weather; he closely monitored the forecasts and weather conditions. He also kept a weather diary for years.  Jack was a very honest man, a hard worker, took good care of his family and he will be greatly missed.

Public Visitation will take place from Maranatha Pentecostal Church, Browns Arm, NL on Thursday, August 28, 2025 from 2-4 PM and 7-9PM.
