It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of our Dad at age 92 years.

Predeceased by his wife Phyllis, his parents, Captain Bill and Evelyn Norman, his sister Nita Spencer, his brother in law Austin Piercey, and other extended relatives. Leaving to mourn, his loving family, sister Patsy Piercey, daughters Judith Freake (Craig), Janice Dawe (Dave), Jean Day (Terry), Joanne Bennett (Greg) beloved son Bill, grandchildren Sarah Peddle (Matthew), Elizabeth Dawe (Luke O'Connor), Rebecca West (Andy), Peter Dawe (Emily), Mark Day (Gillian Anstey), Steven Day (Jess), Laura Wheeler (Justin), Julie Bennett (Mark Parsons), great-grandchildren Kate and James Peddle, Annie O'Connor Dawe, Ellen and Henry West, Wesley Dawe, and Kayley and Brayden Wheeler, special friend Flo Boyd and a large circle of nieces and nephews.

Our dad worked for 38 years with the railway, first as telegraph operator and then as station agent. He worked at many stations in Newfoundland from Port Aux Basques to Holyrood. Dad met many people on his travels, had lots of friends and by his generous spirit helped many along the way. During his life he had various jobs to support his family. In addition to working for the railway, he sold used cars, drove trucks for Brookfield Ice Cream, Golden Eagle and G&L Collections. Dad was a lifelong member of the Lions Club in Lewisporte where he loved calling bingo and was a common sight at the Crown and Anchor booth during Lewisporte Days. He was also one of the founding members of the Calypso Foundation.

An avid hunter and fisherman, Dad loved his trips to the Gaff Topsail with his friend Jim Callahan. Dad's love for his family was trumped only by his passion for a card game. His love of cards brought many hours of fun and laughter (and a few growls) to family and friends.

Storyteller extraordinaire, Dad could keep you entertained for hours. His memory was amazing for detailed recitations. Stories of sailing with his father on the Isabel H and his railway adventures were endless.

Dad gave life his all, accepting life's challenges with courage and strength. Devoted to his family, Dad cared for our brother Bill for 22 years following Mom's sudden death in 2002. Throughout their lives our parents instilled in us a strong sense of family. Together we can accomplish and overcome anything, may we pass this legacy on to our families.

At age 90, Bill and Dad relocated to St. John's to be close to family. We would like to acknowledge the wonderful staff of Linda's Personal Care Home where he lived for 1½ years. For the last 8 months, Dad received exceptional palliative care at The Morgan at Chancellor Park. We are forever grateful to the kind compassionate staff who were part of Dad's final journey.

Public visitation will take place from Gordon Woolfrey Funeral Home, 262 Main Street, Lewisporte, NL on Sunday, May 10, 2026 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM.  The Funeral Service will take place from St. Paul's Anglican Church on Monday, May 11th at 1 PM. Interment will follow from St. Paul's Anglican Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Dad's memory can be made to St Paul's Anglican Church, Lewisporte or the Calypso Foundation, Lewisporte.
