Glen George
Foote
Dec 31, 1937 — Sep 21, 2026
Norris Arm South
Passed away peacefully on Monday, September 21, 2026 at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, NL, Mr. Glen George Foote, age 88 years.
Our family has lost the best — a truly great man of integrity, kindness and compassion.
Born in 1937 to Annie and George Foote, Glen grew up on Exploits Island, Notre Dame Bay. He spoke fondly and often about his life on the Island — making their own hockey sticks, lobster fishing, moonlight parties and, of course, plenty of boyish shenanigans. Those early years and his love for the Island stayed with him throughout his life.
Glen was predeceased by his parents, Annie and George; his brother Freddy; his son Michael; his sisters-in-law Eva Langdon and Florence (Langdon) Brenton; and his cousins Elizabeth Piper and Bruce Windsor.
Glen’s wish was always to move “back home.” After living in Ontario for more than 40 years, he decided it was time to live out that dream and return to Newfoundland. He settled first in Gander and later in Norris Arm. Not long after coming home, Glen and Dorinda purchased a cabin on Exploits Island, where they spent many happy days travelling back and forth by boat. Glen was exactly where he wanted to be and would often say, “I am so happy to be here.”
Glen is survived by his loving wife, Dorinda, whom he loved every bit as much as she loved him. He was a father to Susan (Elvis); stepdad to Greg (Corinne) and Geoff (Renee); and a proud Poppy to Kaylee, Sarah, Jenna (Ryan), Nikolas (Ella), Liam, Larissa (Hyungtae) and Hailea (Kalib).
He is also survived by his brothers Vernon (Betty Lou) and Derek; his in-laws Morley (Betty) Langdon and Cyril Langdon (the late Eva); as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins, including family members Ross Winsor, Liz Chapel and Darren Foote, who all held a special place in his life along with dear friends Des and Linda Kennedy, Gilbert and Greta Budgell.
Glen had a way of leaving people with good memories. Family, friends and those fortunate enough to have known him will remember a kind and compassionate man who loved his family, loved a good story and, perhaps most of all, loved being “home” again.
We will miss him dearly.
Public Visitation will take place from the Salvation Army Church, Norris Arm South, on Thursday, September 24 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM.
The Funeral Service will take place from the Salvation Army Church but will be of the Anglican Liturgy on Friday, September 25, at 2 PM. Internment will take place from a later date.
