Gerald (Jerry) Lenord Henifent passed peacefully on January 23rd, 2026, at the Health Sciences Centre, following a very courageous battle with cancer.

Jerry was predeceased by his daughter, Kim; his wife, Patricia; sister, Anne Murrin; brother, Jim Henifent; parents, Cyril John Henifent and Mary Francis (McDonald). He was also predeceased by his parents-in-law, Tom and Anna Penton; sisters-in-law, Maureen Collins, Marie Penton, and Carol Henifent; brothers-in-law Jim Adams and Martin Penton.

Left to mourn with love and a lifetime of memories are his son and best buddy, Corey (Janette),  grandson Coady, his pride and joy. He is also survived by his sister, Marion (Charlie) Ballou of Wilmington, Massachusetts;  brother, Bill Henifent of Chelmsford, Massachusetts; many in-laws, friends; and many nieces and nephews, all of whom held a special place in his heart.

From all of them on Fogo Island, the Adams boys, Kelly, Marion, Stephen, and Johnny, he often fondly reminisced about stories from their childhoods. In his last couple of years, after moving to Paradise, he became exceptionally close to Kelly and Stephen. He greatly looked forward to Kelly and Connor's Saturday evening visits and Stephen's daily lunchtime visits, always sure to ask how many snow blowers Stephen had sold that day.

Jerry was a kind-hearted man who cherished his family and friends. He had a strong faith and was deeply dedicated to his church. He found joy in life's simple pleasures—a good hand of cards, a cold beer, salmon fishing, and attending Mass.

Also remembering Jerry with love are Alma and Todd. They had always been close to him, but following his diagnosis, they played a crucial and unwavering role in supporting him, going above and beyond to help in any way needed. Jerry often said he loved Alma like a daughter and that he had never met two people so kind.

Special thanks are extended to Dr. Ahmad and the Cancer Clinic staff; to the nurses and doctors on 4 South A at HSC who helped us through the last 10 days; to all the community health visiting nurses, especially Valerie Maher; and to all the nurses we encountered throughout his illness. Jerry always commented that he could never complain about the care he received. Last but not least, a very special thank you to Amy Way and Dr. Bill of the Nav-Care program, who brought comfort and support not only to Jerry, but to all of us.

If Jerry taught us anything, it was to live simply, be faithful, be kind, and love hard.

Public visitation will take place from Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, Norris Arm, NL on Sunday, January 25th from 2-4 & 7-9 PM and Monday, January 26th from 2-4 & 7-9 PM.

The Funeral Service will take place from the Church on Tuesday, January 27th at 12 PM.  Interment will follow from Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery, Norris Arm.
