Obituary

Passed peacefully away, in the presence of his family, at the James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre on June 17, 2017 at the age of 84 years. Gerald was born in Comfort Cove-Newstead, NL. On May 1, 1959 Gerald married the love of his life, Kathleen Elizabeth Rose Linfield and together they had 6 beautiful children.

Gerald was a hardworking man with a wonderful zest for life. It was Camp 13 that his work life began. He then worked with Notre Dame Bay Fisheries LTD., H. Hopkins LTD., and the Lobster pool until he retired to become a full time farmer. He spent the last 27 years working on the farm tending cows and sheep, making hay and growing vegetables. Gerald was an active member of his community and dedicated much of his time to the Agricultural Society, Town Council, Fire Department and his Church.

Gerald is predeceased by his mother and father Clara and Lewis Head, brothers Willis, Martin and Raymond, Sisters Mary Cull and Sadie French, Nephew Chesley Cull and Niece Jocelyn French, in-laws Harold and Minnie Linfield and Brother-in-law Bob Linfield.

Gerald leaves to mourn his loving wife Kathleen, Children Wayne (Jessie), Jacqueline (Scott Cooper), John (Debbie), Joanne (Roy Lodge), Janice (Randy House), and Jennifer (Rod Hale). Grandchildren Kyle (Karla), Amanda (Sheldon Keough), Ashley, Sara (Daniel Wood), Lucas (Angel), Tyler, Zachary (Kiersten), Chelsea, Emma (Zach), Jordan, Noah and Sophie and great grand-child Aidan Keough. Also left to mourn are his sister Pressie Oake, niece, Madeline Elliott;  Sisters-in-law Ruby Head, Phoebe Head and Marilyn Linfield, brother-in-law Hardy Linfield, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Public visitation will take place from the Bethel United Church, Comfort Cove-Newstead on Sunday, June 18 th from  7-9 PM and Monday, June 19 th from 2-4 & 7-9 PM.  The Funeral Service will take place from the church on Tuesday, June 20 th at 2 PM.  Interment will follow from the United Church Cemetery.

As expressions of sympathy, flowers or donations to the Bethel United Church Cemetery, Comfort Cove-Newstead would be gratefully accepted.
