Obituary

George Burt born July 29th, 1921 in Elliston, Trinity Bay, passed peacefully away on Saturday, July 9th, 2016 at the Veterans Pavilion in the Hugh Twomey Centre, Botwood surrounded by loving family. Predeceased by his wife & soulmate of 70 years, Edna (French); his parents John & Maud Burt; his sisters Lenora and Clara. Left to mourn are daughters, Eileen Butt (Reg) of Grand Falls-Windsor, Edith Richards of Gatineau, Quebec; grandchildren, Kim Browne (Philip) of Grand Falls-Windsor, Kent (Angela) of Grand Falls-Windsor, David Richards (Robin) of Fernie, B.C., Corey Richards (Tania)of Val des Monts, Quebec. Also left to mourn are great-grandchildren, Ethan, Seth, Ella, Laura, Brandon, McKinley, Neve, Leo, Gwen & Caleb; nephews, Bill Hooper (Thelma) of Lewisporte, Wayne Hooper (Helen) of St. John's & Jim; nieces, Kathleen Luscombe of Loon Bay & Eleanor Ransome (Mont) of St. John's , Grace, Helen, & Hilda; as well as many other relatives and friends. A special bond, which was shared between George and Eileen's husband Reg, will be sadly missed as they were like father and son in every way. George was a veteran of WW II and spent six years overseas with the British Royal Navy. After the war, George and Edna settled in Birch Bay where he was self employed. In 1957, he moved his family to Lewisporte and managed a woods contracting business. Throughout his life he was an active member of the Masonic Lodge, Royal Canadian Legion, Black/Orange Lodge, St. Matthew's Men's Choir, A.O.T.S. Men's Service Club and Board of Management with St. Matthew's United Church. George was devoted to his wife and loved his family dearly. His passing will leave a void in all our hearts.

The public visitation took place Monday, July 11, 2016 at 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm from Gordon Woolfrey Funeral Home, 172 Main Street, Lewisporte, NL.

The funeral service took place Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at 2 pm from St. Matthew's United Church, Lewisporte, NL. The interment followed at the United Church Cemetery, Lewisporte, NL.

In lieu of flowers, and as expression of sympathy donations in his memory were made to the St. Matthew's United Church.
