Passed peacefully at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander on September 11,2024, Harold Manuel of Lewisporte at the age of 90.
Left to mourn his passing is the love of his life and wife of 67 years Margaret (Porter); son, Wayne (Paulette); daughter, Margo (William Chaytor); grandchildren, Jennifer (Tom Norris), Heather (Bryan Warren), Josh O'Driscoll (Chelsea), Rebecca Chaytor (Zach) and five great-grandchildren Parker, Jaxson, Reese, Maple and Sage. Also left to mourn is his brother, Sid (Verna) and in-laws Noreen (Toots) Manuel, Hilda Lewis, Hubert Porter (Pansy) and Phyllis Porter along with nephews, nieces and close friends. He is predeceased by his parents, George and Maude Manuel, his brother, Roy and a long list from the Porter side of the family.
Dad spent his whole life with service to the Town of Lewisporte, the school system, the church and most importantly his family. He started his working career in 1951-1956 as a wireless operator on the coastal boats. In 1956-1968 he worked as the Office/Credit Manager at Lewisporte Wholesalers and from 1968-1990 he was the Business Manager for the Notre Dame Integrated School Board.
For 65 plus years Dad was an active Member for the Board of St. Matthew's United Church in Lewisporte and was very proud of all they managed to accomplish during those years. He also was a member of the Masonic Lodge #14 for 55 years and was a town councillor for 8. He volunteered his time to too many committees over his lifetime to list. After his retirement he spent many years hunting, fishing and travelling with Mom and some very close family and friends. He told us in these last few weeks that he has no regrets and that he had a good life and did everything that he wanted to do.
The family would like to thank Pleasantview Manor for their care given to Dad in the last few months and their continued care for Mom. Also thanks to the staff of JPMH in emergency, ICU and on the third floor. Special thanks being sent to Dr. Paulus and Rev. Paula for their care and compassion to Dad and the family at this very difficult time.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation, if you are able, to St. Matthews United Church in Lewisporte to the Building/Maintenance Fund.
Visitation will take place at Gordon Woolfrey Funeral Home Sunday September 15, 2024 from 2-4pm and 7-9 pm Service will be Monday September 16, 2024 from St. Matthew's United Church in Lewisporte at 11 am. Interment will follow at St. Matthew's United Church Cemetery, Premier Drive.
