It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Emily Dwyer, on Sunday, December 1, 2024, at the age of 89 years.

She was predeceased by her parents, Mary and Nicholas Lane; sons, Jim, Joe and Danny.

Left to mourn her passing with fond and loving memories are her husband of 70 years, Jim;  children, Betty (Brian), Herb (Deanna), Greg (Deloris), George (Doris), Rose (Brian), Keith (Madge), Kenny and honorary son/nephew, Larry (Sherry); grandchildren, Helen, Jamie-Lynn, Jeffery, Michael, Lacey, Jessica, Jaleesa and Janay;  great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Landon, Callie, Chloe, Kaiden, Connor, Ben and a large circle of extended family and friends.

Referred to affectionally as Miss Emily, she was born April 9, 1935 in Tilting, Fogo Island; one of five children to the late Mary and Nicholas Lane. She married the love of her life, Jim, on June 10, 1954 and raised 10 children.

The simple pleasures in life brought Emily great joy.  In her younger years, she loved to go berry picking, whether it be blueberries, bakeapples or partridgeberries.  Trouting was another favorite pastime. Never a casting rod but an old bamboo and a bobber.  It didn't matter the size of the fish, as long as she could flick it into shore.

She was a fierce protector of her loved ones and always wanted her Family close by., never wanting them to leave. She was most happy when the garden was full. And she could write. She would sometimes write little anecdotes about places she had been or seen.  Her letters were a joy to read.  And who could forget her stewed cabbage.

Public visitation will take place from the Roman Catholic Church, Norris Arm On Tuesday, December 3rd from 2-4 PM.  The Funeral Service will take place from the church on Wednesday, December 4th at 1 PM. Interment will follow at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Norris Arm.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Danny Dwyer Scholarship Fund will be gratefully accepted.
