With profound sadness, the family of Ellis Coles announces his sudden passing on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at the age of 86.

Ellis was a loving husband, cherished father, proud grandfather, and joyful great-grandfather. A man of boundless energy and remarkable talent, he embraced life with open arms and lived it to the fullest. Whether building a boat with his own hands or navigating the waters in it, splitting wood for winter or riding through the woods on his quad, Ellis found joy in every moment.

Above all, Ellis was known for his music—a gift that touched hearts across Newfoundland and far beyond. Alongside his late brother Wince, he composed songs that stirred laughter, summoned tears, and lingered in the hearts of those who heard them. His melodies became the soundtrack to countless lives, woven with wit, wisdom, and emotion.

Yet even his many talents were outshone by his extraordinary sense of humour. Ellis had a rare gift for making people laugh, and his presence lit up every room he entered. His laughter was infectious, his stories unforgettable, and his spirit impossible to forget.

In keeping with Ellis's wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral.
