It is with heavy hearts, but with the most special memories to carry us through this difficult time that the family of Theresa announce her peaceful passing at Agnes Pratt Home. She was surrounded in her final days, as she was throughout her life, by her loving and devoted family and friends, especially her husband Jim who held her hand until the end.

Predeceased by her mother and father Arthur and Emily Smith (nee Mercer), father and mother-in-law Ford and Olive Bride Woolfrey (nee Simms), infant sister, sister Mable French (nee Smith), brother Arthur Smith, and great granddaughter Abigail Dobbin.

Leaving to mourn her dearest husband, protector and advocate of 70 years James (Jim) Woolfrey,  sons Sidney Woolfrey (Jan Erik), Chesley Woolfrey (Wanda), Arthur Woolfrey (Kim) and daughter Marilyn Gould (Derek). Granddaughters Sandy (Mark), Katie (Randy), Emily (Brad), Alaina, Amy (Justin), Alicia, Cassie (Jacob), Victoria (Jimmy) and Sabrina (Taylor), Mike, and great grandchildren Alexander, Liam, Devon, Olivia, Addison, Juliette, Chayse, Lincoln, Charlie, Beau, Jasper, and the expected newest addition arriving later this year, brother-in-law Malcolm French and sister-in-law Joan Smith. Nieces and nephews Marilyn (Steve), Kayla (Devon), and Stefan (Dixie), who she considered and loved as grandchildren, along with other extended family and friends.

Theresa was born "on the Labrador" as she loved to share and told stories of simpler, loving times of her family's fishing livelihood in Battle Harbour. She was the best big sister to Mable and Art and she was dearly loved by her mom and dad who set an incredible foundation for how Theresa and Jim would go on to raise their children, valuing family, hard work, time together, faith and tradition. Labrador introduced Theresa to one of her most enjoyed delicacies the bakeapple which she most enjoyed made into jam, served with tinned cream and homemade bread.

Theresa moved to Bay Roberts at 14 years old, which is a place that continued to hold a special spot in her heart throughout her life. Most especially for her family, friends and memories of her time there.

In 1954 she moved to Lewisporte and worked in Woolfrey's Store where she met Jim, and in him instantly found her partner for life and married that year. Theresa and Jim raised their four children in Lewisporte. Their door was always open and their home was a welcoming place for family, neighbors, visitors and all of their kids' friends.

She was an active member of St. Matthew's United Church in the choir and UCW where her faith continued to grow as did her friendships with fellow members which she treasured. She also received her home nursing certificate in the late 1950s.

Theresa's baking and crafts were often donated to the latest fundraisers, and she was always quick to provide help when a call went out. Her baked treats were also a favorite with her family and she must have made thousands of snowballs and hundreds of puddings in her lifetime.

Theresa and Jim enjoyed travel and their time spending winters in Florida highlighted their retirement years. She was happy when the days were warm, shopping deals plentiful and the next event already in the works.

But likely Theresa's best times were spent at their cabin in Comfort Cove. Whether waking to a quiet day with just her and Jim hearing the ocean splashing through their windows and the smell of flowers coming in or when the cabin was busting at the seams with people, music, and food, it was their little piece of heaven on Earth. She loved to feed people, tuck them in making sure they were warm enough and laughing together. Her most treasured guests were her grandkids. Each one knew that they were always welcome at Nan's and Pop's and a visit was going to mean treats, sleep, and the fixings for at least a story or two.

Theresa spent time in her final years at Kenny's Pond retirement home, Meadow Creek and at Agnes Pratt Home. A special thank you to all the nurses and doctors who cared for Theresa throughout the years, but especially to the staff of Agnes Pratt; these carers were there around the clock even when we weren't always able to be and kept her comfortable. Theresa's family will forever be grateful!

Public visitation will take place from Gordon Woolfrey Funeral Home, 262 Main Street, Lewisporte, NL on Monday July 15th from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. The Funeral Service will take place from St. Matthews United Church on Tuesday July 16th at 2 PM. Interment will take place from the United Church Cemetery.
