Clara peacefully passed at the James Paton Memorial Health Care Centre in Gander on April 14, 2025 just 7 weeks shy of her 99th birthday! She is predeceased by her husband, Wilson to whom she was married for 58 years; her daughter, Juanita and son, Maxwell; her great-grandson, Hayden; her parents Jasper and Maisie Vivian; her brothers Roland, Ernest, Eliol, Lester, and Reginald; and her sisters Winnie, Delsie, Joyce, and Marjorie.

Left to mourn her passing with fond and loving memories are six children: Susie (Harry), Frank (Dale), Marvin (Dianne), Margaret (Lee), Jacklynne, and Denise (Randy). Also leaving to mourn are 19 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren and a larger circle of other relatives and friends.

Clara lived through some difficult times during her lifetime, but she had tremendous grit and determination which not only helped her through those times but contributed significantly to her longevity despite adversity.  She truly enjoyed the simple things in life that she was easily able to experience and embrace in Gander Bay where she lived for her entire life. She thoroughly appreciated the outdoors and adventures included trout fishing, rabbit catching, and most of all, berry picking.  Picking berries was a lifelong passion and she would literally crawl on her hands and knees just to get to a spot to pull off a few of whatever berries were in season.  In fact, as she advanced in age, she would become noticeably more excited as berry picking season approached. One would be hard-pressed to encounter anyone more passionate about harvesting berries than Clara.

She was a humorous person and very sociable.  In fact, she was most content when she was surrounded by family and friends.  It was this strong desire to be connected to family that created and sustained a nearly 60-year tradition of having her children and grandchildren at her house Sunday afternoon to socialize and to then have a traditional Sunday supper.  She loved to cook and bake, so Sunday supper consisted of meat left from a big Sunday dinner, a variety of salads, homemade bread, purity cream crackers, homemade jams, cheese, various baked goods and custard and jelly.  Except in recent years, supper also included her famously delicious egg custard.  This "Sunday Supper" tradition stood the test of time, and family members gathered with her for one last supper on April 6.

Clara was all about having fun and often getting into serious fits of laughing.  Then, on her 86th birthday she became a little more serious and more adventurous when she put on the leather and helmet and took a short motorcycle ride with her son.  Each year after that until age 90, she celebrated her birthday by riding as a passenger on the back of the Harley, and the last ride was approximately 2 hours in duration.

Mom, all told and considered, you lived a remarkable life and while you are now passed, you'll never be forgotten!

Public visitation will take place from Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Wings Point on Wednesday, April 16, 2025 from 7:00-9:00 PM and on Thursday, April 17, 2025 from 2:00-4:00 PM.  The Funeral Service will take place from the church on Friday, April 18, 2025 at 3:00 PM. Interment will follow at the Holy Trinity Anglican Cemetery in Clarkes Head.
