Barry Budden's Obituary
February 2, 1960 – October 22, 2022

Passed peacefully away on October 22, 2022 at the age of 62 after a short but courageous battle with cancer, Mr. Barry Edward Budden of Lewisporte, NL.

Predeceased by his father, Ted; sister-in-law, Goldie Reid.

Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife of 42 years, Diane; children, Dennis & Keith; grandchild and "Pop's Boy", Cruz; mother, Emeline; parents-in-law, Lawrence & Marina Penney; brothers Rick (Irene), Wade (Jennifer); sisters Eileen (Carl) Greening, Brenda (Rodney) Vatcher, Wanda; as well as many nieces, nephews and a large circle of family & friends.

Barry loved his family the most. Regardless of what was happening, family was always first. He made sure his family was happy and well-taken care of, before he would even consider taking care of himself.

Barry was a friend to everyone. Barry had a zest for life and loved the great outdoors. He loved fishing, hunting, berry picking and everything related to being outside. Barry was a jack-of-all-trades, a real handyman and could take apart and fix anything.

Barry's commitment to others and his community was evident in his 40 years of service to the Town of Lewisporte through the Lewisporte Regional Fire-Rescue Department. Over his 4 decades of service, Barry moved up through the ranks, becoming Fire Chief in 2011. He was the first firefighter in Lewisporte to hold every position in the department (Lieutenant, Captain, Deputy Chief, Assistant Chief, Battalion Chief, and Fire Chief) and the first to reach 40 years.

The family would like to thank their family, friends and community for the commitment, support and kindness shown to them during Barry's short illness. The family would also like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to the doctors, nurses and staff throughout the Central Health region and St. Clare's Mercy Hospital.  Special recognition and thanks to sister-in-law, Nurse Jennifer, and the angels at Lewisporte Health Center who cared for Barry during the last few weeks of his life. To Rev. Paula Gale & Rev. Art Elliott --- thank-you for being by Barry's side and guiding him through his final journey.

Fireman's Prayer

When I am called to duty, God, whenever flames may rage; give me strength to save some life, whatever be its age. Help me embrace a little child before it is too late, or save some older person from the horror of that fate. Enable me to be alert and hear the weakest shout, and quickly and efficiently to put the fire out. I want to fill my calling, and to give the best in me, to guard my every neighbour and protect his property. And if, according to my fate, I am to lose my life, Please God, Bless with Your protecting hand, my children and my wife.
