Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Anthony (Tony) Gillingham of Lewisporte, who passed away peacefully on May 24, 2026, at the age of 64.

Tony was a man who faced many hardships throughout his life with quiet strength and resilience. Throughout life's challenges, he remained deeply loved by his family and those who knew him best. He will be remembered for his presence, his stories, his sense of humour, and the many memories shared with family and friends over the years.

Tony found enjoyment in the simple things in life. He had a passion for hockey, salmon fishing, collecting sports memorabilia, and he greatly enjoyed the music of the 1970s and 1980s.  Tony's greatest pride and joy was his son, Christian, who became the centre of his life from the day he was born.

Tony was predeceased by his parents, Tom and Pearl Gillingham, who raised and cared for him from an early age, his mother, Dorothy Sparks, who passed away during his childhood, brother-in-law, Robert Woolfrey and father-in-law, Reginald Freake.

Leaving to mourn with loving memories are his son, Christian (Nikita); his granddaughter, Amelia; Christian's mother, Regina; his sister, Rita Woolfrey; his brother, Clayton (Beth) Gillingham; his half-sisters, Denise (Terry) French and Dorothy (Donald) Lawton; mother in law, Lorna Freake; and good friend, Joy Stuckless; along with a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

The family would like to express sincere gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and caregivers who provided Tony with compassion and comfort during his final days.

Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we take comfort in knowing Tony is finally at peace and free from suffering.

Forever loved, forever remembered.
