Passed away at the Lewisporte Health Centre, Lewisporte, NL, Alvin John Gale aged 79 years.
Alvin John Ashbrooke Gale was born, the eldest son, to George and Vera May (Strickland) Gale on Indian Islands, Fogo District, Notre Dame Bay on December 9, 1936. Alvin was raised on Indian Islands until the family resettled to Lewisporte in 1949. It was there he met the love of his life, Faith Chaffey, from Change Islands, and they were married on November 7, 1958. The following year, they moved to Baie Verte and spent twenty years there where Alvin was employed as a Welfare Officer and it was there that he and Faith entered the world of business.
In 1978 they returned to Lewisporte and, together, founded Phoenix Cable TV Limited, bringing cable services to the northeast coast of NL. Alvin was very involved in the business community and many initiatives as well as in the Chamber of Commerce, the Masonic Lodge and the Lions' Club. Alvin chaired the initial committee that saw the construction of the Woolfrey's Pond Boardwalk and was one of the founding members of the Lewisporte Yacht Club.
Alvin enjoyed boating, researching family history and especially time spent with family and good friends. Being a devoted husband, father, grand and great-grandfather were very important roles for Alvin and he filled them with much love and care.

He leaves to mourn with sad but thankful hearts his wife Faith, sons Dale (Helen) of Calgary, Brian (Cheryl) of Lewisporte, grandchildren Summer, Shannon, Ashley, Nathan, Aaron, Sacha, Andrew and Chloe, and great-grandchildren Faith, Sky, Gabriel, Dustin, Tia, Angeline and Connor, brother Ivan (Joanne), brother-in-law Fred (Elizabeth) Chaffey and a large circle of nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
